Am I wrong here? (Overprotective brother/son?)?

My friend called me and asked me to tell my mother something, so I told him that I will. Then he asked where my mother is, so I said in the living room. He asked me to give her the phone because he wants to tell her personally, but I refused and I told him that he should stop asking me to give her the phone because I find it immoral. He said that I'm backward and that my mother old so why am I overprotective. I told him that this is civilization when you enter someone's house you say ''Hi'' and likewise when you want to tell someone in your friends family something you must ask him to (ESPECIALLY ON THE TELEPHONE). And likewise he once wanted to speak to my sister and I told her that I will tell her. Is this right?
