Why do the majority of Catholics believe that birth control is not a sin?

Our cafeteria Catholics view morals as relative due to a democratic mind set. It's similar to a physically fat nation in denial about being obese...but instead of physical obesity, we suffer from spiritual obesity where we need to exercise our morals and consume healthier media on morals to get spiritually fit.
